Joan Solà Wins Europan Award for Urbanism

One of our program’s professors, Joan Solà Font, has been awarded as a runner-up in this year’s Europan11 competition for his project SC011 With its Skirt Hitched up/Con la Falda Remangá, together with Carles Crosas Armengol, Alvaro Pérez Otín, and Guillem Martínez Piera, for the Basque town of Sestao.

Europan11’s topic this year was the Resonance between Territories and Ways of Life, What Architectures for Sustainable Cities and “marked by a strong commitment amongst European cities to very stringent environmental objectives. As a general rule, they are trying to achieve greater autonomy, in both food and energy, and want to develop societal innovations in order to encourage every Citizen to adopt an eco-responsible lifestyle. These geopolitical concerns need to be reflected in the design of urban spaces at the urban and architectural scale.”

Out of the 250 entries presented for Spain, Joan Solà Font’s was one of the 36 teams–all of them Spanish–to be included in the final results. (Also see the news in Spanish here and here.)

Congratulations to Joan Solà and all the winners!
