Jane Jacobs on Neighborhoods in Action [VIDEO]

A great interview with the late Jane Jacobs, activist of healthy cities and author of the 1961 book The Death and Life of Great American Cities. In this video Neighborhoods in Action produced by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, she explains the importance of creating neighborhood hearts, noting, “A heart is not a disembodied thing…that you just set down arbitrarily like choosing a shopping center site. It has to have an anatomy that runs into the neighborhood.”

Jane Jacobs had an exceptional influence on urban design and urban planning. She passed away in April 2006 and this year her seminal book celebrated its 50th anniversary.
